New York Yankees vs. Los Angeles Angels Prediction

Tonight, the Angels will send out rookie left-hander, Reid Detmers. While he might have a no-hitter this season, the lefty hasn’t been very good recently. Detmers has had a 5.96 xFIP in the last 30 days. He’s also struck out just 12.6% of batters and has induced only 34.8% of ground balls. Because of that no-hitter, Detmers has had a BABIP of .123 in the last 30 days. That's not going to last. Obviously, that number will start to increase as he pitches more often.

New York has a .127 ISO and wOBA of .260 against lefties in the last 30 days. Without Gleybar Torres and D.J. LeMahieu, the Yankees would have an extremely low wOBA against lefties in the last 30 days. For the Yankees, it'll be Nestor Cortes getting the start. Cortes has earned 26.6% of strikeouts in the last 30 days and has a 1.70 ERA on the year. He's certainly been one of the more elite pitchers in the league this year so far. Like Detmers, however, Cortes has a low BABIP of .192. Again, it's unlikely that that number continues to stay under .200 as the weather gets warmed and Cortes pitches more. Cortes also has a lot on his plate tonight. The Angels have been elite against left-handed throwers with an ISO of .197 and wOBA of .361 against lefties in the last 30 days. Sure, if you take away Mike Trout and Taylor Ward, the lineup isn’t nearly as good. However, the Angels still strike out just 19% of the time against lefties in the last 30 days and hit 24.7% of line drives as a projected lineup. If the Angels batters can get some wood on the ball, the Angels will have more success. Therefore, I'll take the Angels +1.5 at -130 in this one. I don't trust the Yankees against a lefty as I do with the Angels.
