The Padres will send out their ace in Yu Darvish today to try and put out the fire. If the season ended today, both of these teams would be playoff teams via the wildcard. The Cardinals entered the season knowing that they could compete in the central, and with another wild card spot opening up, they were slated to be a playoff team.
The same was true for the Padres as they were expected to be a playoff team but not win the division as the Dodgers were the favorites yet again and for good reason. The Padres are still without their best player, Fernando Tatis Jr, who should return soon. The two players who have kept this team afloat offensively are Manny Machado and Eric Hosmer. Machado is currently the favorite to win NL MVP, and for good reason. He is swinging the bat better than ever, and he is showing off his defensive skill set on a daily basis. The Padres will look to get to Dakota Hudson, who gets the ball today for the Cardinals. Hudson has been up and down this season but will look to put forward a strong effort here tonight to get his team a series sweep.
I am backing the Padres on the money line here today. We backed the Cards on Monday, and they helped us out with a nice win, but this should be a great spot for the Padres today. Yu Darvish will be on the bump, and I expect a strong outing from him.
The Cardinals are also playing a lot of bench pieces for this game, so he avoids some of the top bats of St. Louis. Dakota Hudson in my opinion will struggle today against this San Diego lineup. The Padres bats are due for a breakout, and I am willing to bet it’s today! Let’s stay hot on the Diamond.
