Handicapper and player prop expert John Hyslop is back with his top MLB player prop bet for Thursday. This time his pick comes from the Colorado Rockies vs. Atlanta Braves game with his sights set on Rockies starting pitcher Austin Gomber.
ANALYSIS

Colorado Rockies vs. Atlanta Braves Prediction: Can We Bank on Austin Gomber Stacking Strikeouts?

Today is about opportunity. Everyone deserves a chance and MLB pitchers are no different. Plus it's not all that fun to back the same guys every single night. We want to mix it up a little. Live a bit. Now obviously we aren't going to just give anyone a shot. I've actually devised my very own farm system in my head so I know which guys are ready for an opportunity on my tickets and which guys aren't. What's even more important is figuring out when to give these guys their big break. It's not an easy job to be the gatekeeper for opportunity but it's one that I take seriously. It's actually very fulfilling. Tonight we're getting a guy who I'm pulling up from my personal farm system at what I think could be a perfect time. If he plays his cards right, this guy could be a Slop Circle of Trust member. On top of all of that, the move is a juice drinker's dream. This play has everything.

Colorado Rockies vs. Atlanta Braves Prediction

Austin Gomber Over 3.5 Strikeouts (-164) (Bet $164 to Win $100)

*Odds Available at FanDuel at Time of Publishing*

This one is at FanDuel and Barstool since they are the only ones still posting 3.5. The -164 price is about as steep as it gets but you know you juice drinkers love it. Somehow your brains have added up that it means it's a good play if it's priced over -150. Crazy. Now if you have to play at DraftKings or BetMGM, you'll see 4.5 for +120. That's more my speed but both options are fine.

Austin Gomber. Great name. But imagine being a 6'5" tall, 220-pound Austin with a bazooka attached to your left arm and still seeing 3.5 next to your strikeout prop. That's disgusting and it shouldn't happen to anyone. Especially an Austin. I get that the guy pitches at Coors Field. I do. But he didn't choose to pitch there. That's just where his team plays. Even so, he still hasn't been bad there.

The haters are going to say that Gomber has only fanned four or more guys at Coors Field once this season. They're so predictable. The thing those people won't tell you is that those starts were against the Washington Nationals, Chicago Cubs, Kansas City Royals, and New York Mets. Three of those teams don't strike out much. Even still, Gomber fanned six Nationals which according to my conversion chart equals 14 Atlanta Braves. That's who he pitches against tonight. Suck it haters.

The Braves can hit a little so it's concerning that this one is at Coors Field but so be it. They strike out a ton. Only two teams have struck out more against lefties than they have on the season. One of those teams has almost 200 more at-bats against southpaws. The other has 75 more. Looking at the possible lineup tonight, the Braves could literally field an entire team that strikes out 25+% of the time against lefties. This is more than worth a bet.
