Los Angeles Dodgers vs. New York Mets Prediction

The Dodgers will be sending out one of the more surprising pitchers in the league this season.

Tony Gonsolin currently has a 5-0 record with a 1.80 ERA on the season and will get the start in the first game of the series against the Mets. In the last 30 days, the right-hander has had a 3.33 xFIP and 30.1% of strikeouts. However, he also has a .180 BABIP in the last 30 days. It's hard to sustain that kind of number. He's also allowed a .194 ISO to lefties in the last 30 days.

Meanwhile, the Mets don’t have so much power. But instead, the Mets have a .335 wOBA with just 16.3% of strikeouts. If Gonsolin is unable to earn strikeouts and allows balls in play, that .180 BABIP will start to fade in this game. Essentially, the Mets have six batters with a .343 wOBA or higher against righties in their projected order.

Taijuan Walker will take the hill for the Mets tonight. The right-hander has had his ups and downs with a 5.25 xFIP in the last 30 days. He's earned just 11.6% of strikeouts and has given up 8.3% of walks in that same time frame. However, Walker has been able to minimize damage with 52.8% of ground balls and has allowed just 18% of line drives in the last 30 days.

Like Gonsolin, Walker is allowing a .178 ISO to lefties and will be challenged by multiple lefties in the Dodgers lineup.

The Dodgers have a .224 ISO with a wOBA of .363 in the last 30 days against righties. Los Angeles has also earned 10.7% of walks with their projected lineup and is hitting 25.8% of line drives along with just 33.4% of ground balls. Lefties to watch out for include Freddie Freeman, Max Muncy, and Cody Bellinger.

With that said, I'm liking the over in this game. The Dodgers stack up very nicely against Walker but if Gonsolin isn't going to earn 30% of strikeouts in tonight's game, there's reason to believe the Mets can have success offensively too.

Let's take the Over 8.5 in tonight's game.
