Chicago Cubs vs. St. Louis Cardinals Prediction
We are seeing the very rare 5-game series here as The Cubs won game 1, St. Louis took game 2 and then both teams split the double header last night so we have the rubber match on SNB.
Tonight the Cardinals will start their ace in Adam Wainwright and while he does not have the velocity he once did, he is still very effective as he comes into this game with a 5-4 record and an impressive 2.75 ERA. He is also coming off a very good start against the Padres where he threw 7 shutout innings and had 10 strikeouts while only allowing 2 hits.
On the surface, this may look like a better matchup for Wainwright against the Cubs compared to the Padres but I think the long-time St Louis starter may not have that same success tonight. A few Cubs in the lineup tonight such as Ian Happ (8-20) and Jason Heyward (15-42) have really hit him well. The Cubs have also been leaving a ton of runners on base in this series and I think they are due for some positive regression in the 2-out hit department.
On the other side for the Cubs tonight will be Justin Steele who has struggled mightily over his last 2 starts. He has allowed 10 total earned runs over his last 2 outings across 7 innings of work against the Reds and Brewers, who aren’t the best offensive teams, to begin with, so that is very alarming.
He has also really struggled with his command as he as walked 6 batters those starts as well which does not bode well for him against an extremely patient and experienced St Louis lineup. The Cardinals are one of the best teams in the league at putting the ball in play and getting on base. They are an excellent fundamental team and rarely strikeout and I think Steele will really struggle to put them away in this game.
So which way am I leaning? Well, tonight I am not rolling with a side and I am going with the F5 OVER 4.5 at -105 for 1U for my most confident MLB Play of the night as I think we see a very high scoring game and will not be surprised if one of these pitchers doesn’t make it past the 3rd or 4th inning.
Chicago Cubs vs. St. Louis Cardinals Pick
- F5 OVER 4.5 (-105) (Bet $105 to win $100)
