San Diego Padres vs. New York Mets Prediction
The New York Mets will look to keep their momentum on the road with Carlos Carrasco on the mound. Throughout the year, Carrasco has had some really good moments. That's helped him be 6-1 with a 3.63 ERA to start the season. In the last 30 days, Carrasco has a 4.12 xFIP with just 6% of walks. Both of those numbers are above-average in the league.
However, with the good comes the bad for every pitcher. Carrasco has been a bit unlucky with a .369 BABIP in the last 30 days and has allowed a wOBA of .413 to righties in his last 54 plate appearances. However, he is still getting 51.8% of ground balls in that same time frame.
Carrasco should have success against this Padres ball club. Against righties, the Padres' lineup has struggled, hitting a .130 ISO and wOBA of .288 with their projected lineup against righties. The Padres have struck out 23.1% of the time in the last 30 days against righties and are walking just 6.7% of the time in that same time frame. Both are below-average numbers.
On the other hand, Blake Snell will get the call for the Padres. The lefty has a 5.04 xFIP in the last 30 days with 13.3% of walks. He's only appeared in three games so far this season and in those three games, Snell has allowed a .188 BABIP with just 29.4% of ground balls. Those numbers will resort back to the mean, however, Snell is earning 30% of strikeouts, which has helped him keep damage to a minimum. He has an ERA of 4.80 on the season. Without those strikeouts, he would be doomed right now.
He still might be doomed tonight too. With their projected lineup, the Mets have hit lefties well this season, earning a .177 ISO and wOBA of .359 in the last 30 days. The Mets are also striking out 18.9% of the time in those 30 days against lefties and walking over 10% of the time.
Against lefties, the Mets are also hitting 28.9% of line drives and hitting under 39.4% of ground balls. This is a good matchup against Snell, who just hasn't looked 100 percent since coming back from injury.
Therefore, I'm riding with the Mets in this pick-em game.
