Pittsburgh Pirates vs Detroit Tigers Prediction
I’m really starting to become a bigger Tarik Skubal fan each time he pitches. I’m very critical of players that play in my city but he has proven himself to be this team's ace at the moment. The man has a 2.15 ERA and has a shutout in four of his five starts. These aren’t low inning shutouts either, he has pitched 32 innings in his last five games so he's going into the sixth inning routinely with the other team still having a donut. Pittsburgh doesn’t feel like a team that should be able to knock him around.
Pittsburgh isn’t as easy to pick on this year but they still have a long ways to go. The club has a .229 batting average against lefties and they now face one of the best in the league. Additionally, Detroit shockingly has the second-best bullpen in the MLB only trailing the Astros in terms of ERA. Detroit should come out motivated after being embarrassingly swept by the Yankees. This feels like a bounceback spot for them and I think they can limit the Pirates bats here.
Pittsburgh has scored three or fewer runs in 14 of their last 22 games. In their last two games, they’ve looked especially bad failing to score 4+ in both and making Zach Davies look like a good pitcher. This game's total is just seven so the only way I feel like we lose this one is by a smidge and they score four exactly. Skubal and the bullpen have been dominant and the team they’re playing scores the third least runs in the MLB. This one will be a sweat but I see value on the under.
