Tonight two former teammates go up against each other. Chris Bassitt vs Sean Manae. Which of these pitchers will help their team win? Jason Radowitz breaks down the New York Mets vs San Diego Padres game.
ANALYSIS

San Diego Padres vs New York Mets Prediction: How Will Chris Bassitt Fare Against Sean Manae Tonight?

The New York Mets ended up losing last night's game, 7-0. But more importantly, the Mets might've lost Starling Marte and Pete Alonso for a little bit. There's a very high chance that neither of those two will be in tonight's lineup for the Mets. However, the Mets will still try and win the rubber match of a three-game series over the Padres. With two former teammates on the mound, tonight's game is very interesting. Here are our picks, predictions, and odds for Wednesday's game between the San Diego Padres and New York Mets.

Padres vs. Mets Line Movement

San Diego Padres vs. New York Mets Prediction

The Athletics had a fire sale in the offseason. Now two former teammates will be taking each other on with different teams. Sean Manaea of the Padres and Chris Bassitt of the Mets will take the hill tonight after pitching together for many years in Oakland with the Athletics. This should be interesting. Sean Manaea has 2-3 record but an ERA of 3.77 on the season for the Padres. The lefty has an xFIP of 3.69 in the last 30 days while striking out 28.8% of batters in the last 30 days. Walks can get a bit high for Manaea, but overall, he’s been very good for the Padres who needed pitching depth this season. He should fare well against the Mets tonight. Again, the Mets won’t have Marte or Alonso in the lineup. Therefore, the lineup now has a .105 ISO and wOBA of .320 in the last 30 days against lefties. Still, the Mets are still knocking 27.4% of line drives against lefties with the projected lineup without Alonso and Marte and have struck out only 19.1% of the time. So there's some optimism for the Mets.

On the other hand, Chris Bassitt has a 4.66 xFIP in the last 30 days despite having a 3.74 ERA on the season. Bassitt is struggling to earn ground balls at a high rate and is giving up 21.7% of line drives in the last 30 days. And like Manaea, Bassitt's walks can get a bit high at times. In the Padres’ projected lineup, San Diego only has a .132 ISO and wOBA of .283 in the last 30 days. The Padres have also struck out 23.4% against righties in that same time frame and have only earned 6.2% of walks. Neither lineup looks appealing tonight. Bassitt struggles against lefties way more than righties but the Padres don't have any consistent lefty in the lineup that destroys righties. Meanwhile, Manaea has allowed some power to righties lately but only Eduardo Escobar has shown off some power against lefties in the last 30 days. With that said, I'll take the under 7 in this game. The Mets lineup is washed out and the Padres are struggling to consistently get on base against righties.
