Miami Marlins vs Washington Nationals Prediction: Can Stephen Strasburg and the Nationals Avoid the Sweep?

The Miami Marlins escaped the Nationals on Wednesday, earning a 2-1 extra-innings win in the 10th inning. The Marlins lacked offense for the entire night until the 10th inning but due to fantastic pitching from Sandy Alcantara, the Marlins escaped and got the series win. Although the Marlins got the series win, they'll now be looking to get the sweep in today's game against a familiar foe in Stephen Strasburg. Yes, you read that right. Strasburg will be making his season debut tonight for Washington. How will the Marlins approach tonight's game? Here are our picks, predictions, and odds for Thursday's game between the Washington Nationals and Miami Marlins.

Miami Marlins vs. Washington Nationals Prediction

The Nationals will look to avoid a sweep on the road in Miami. Tonight, they'll have Stephen Strasburg on the mound, making his season debut. Strasburg hasn't really been the same dating back to his earlier days. But the potential is still there. Last season, Strasburg has a 5.59 xFIP with 14.7% of walks. However, his BABIP was down to .218 in a very limited sample size. If he's able to minimize the walks, Strasburg could have a ton of success in the MLB. The Marlins have a really solid top of the order between Jazz Chisholm, Garrett Cooper, and Jorge Soler. But after those three bats, the rest of the lineup, other than Miguel Rojas, has struggled to hit righties in the last 30 days. The Marlins are actually hitting 49.1% of ground balls in the last 30 days and that's due to the entire bottom half of the order hitting over 50% of grounders. On the other hand, Trevor Rogers will get the start for Miami. He's 2-5 with a 5.80 ERA on the year. The left-hander has struggled a lot and has a 5.40 xFIP in the last 30 days along with 9.5% of walks. Against righties, Rogers has allowed a .426 wOBA and ISO of .381 in the last 30 days. Lefties even have a .356 wOBA and ISO of .167. In the Nationals lineup, there will be eight righties and Juan Soto, who is a lefty. Between Caesar Hernandez, Lane Thomas, Juan Soto, and Nelson Cruz, the Nationals are likely in for a treat against the left-hander. Plus, the Nationals have only struck out 17% of the time against lefties in the last 30 days. I'll back Strasburg and the Nationals to salvage the series and get one win back. I like this plus money spot.
