Atlanta Braves vs. Pittsburgh Pirates Prediction: Can Roansy Contreras Quiet the Braves Bats?

This article is a little late and that's my bad. I know it's big of me to admit but it was my fault. I can explain though. I was on Twitter this morning like always and saw a video of a New York Rangers fan sucker-punching a Tampa Bay Lightning fan. The guy absolutely got dropped but in his defense, he wasn't even looking. Like normal, the comment section was gold but one guy with a blue check derailed my morning. He legit tried to float the idea that the punch may have been because the assaulter lost a wager. Like sports betting may have been behind the fight. Like fights at sporting events weren't a thing until sports betting came around. Now we've all seen weird stuff on the Internet that we wished we hadn't seen but this was too much for my brain. I had to put my phone down and have a little pep talk with myself. I said, "John, since idiots are allowed to use Twitter too, you're going to see some dumb takes on that app. It's nothing to worry about." I took my dog for a walk, got some air, and logged in to FanDuel. I'm back now. It was touch and go for a minute there but sports betting actually saved my day. That was a close one.

Atlanta Braves vs. Pittsburgh Pirates Prediction

Roansy Contreras Over 4.5 Strikeouts (-146) (Bet $146 to Win $100)

*Odds Available at FanDuel at Time of Publishing*

This one is at FanDuel right now and it certainly won't last so put it in now if you are riding. The other books have 4.5 (-160) or higher so there is that to think about. It was much cheaper earlier today but as you know I was stuck because of that guy on Twitter. Still, this is worth playing even at this price. I may even jump on 6+ at +158 as well.

We all saw this guy flash his junk in his last outing against the Arizona Diamondbacks. I knew he had it in him because I have an eye for this sort of thing and I was 100% correct. He had 54 innings in AA ball back in 2021 where he struck out 76 guys so it's obvious there is a beast within. He just hadn't had a chance to show it yet this season because of the teams he's faced. Not his fault. Roansy Contreras doesn't make the schedule. He just pitches.

Just because he's pitched against teams that don't strike out, doesn't mean this guy has been held down. So far this season, we've seen Contreras cover this number in two of his three starts. One of those games was against Colorado which doesn't really strike out. The other was his last start against the Diamondbacks when he fanned eight guys. He just proved if you put him up against teams that whiff, he'll stuff some cash in your pocket. It's just how he rolls.

There is only one team in MLB that has struck out more than the Diamondbacks and it's the Atlanta Braves. Our guy Roansy should feast against a lineup that strikes out like it's their job. I count six guys that could be in the lineup tonight that fan at least 25% of the time over the last two weeks. If you expand that search to the entire season, Ozzie Albies could be the only one playing tonight that has whiffed less than 22% in 2022. We could ladder this guy to the moon if we wanted to.
