I much prefer the first 5 innings to the full game because Detroit has a shockingly good bullpen. Jose Berrios hasn’t been good this year, but let's not act like isn’t still capable of quality starts. The Tigers score the least runs in baseball, it is the ultimate get-right spot for any pitcher. We’ve seen Berrios go 7 scoreless innings this year so the upside is there for him to dominate, although he looks more hittable. The Tigers hit righties at a .210 clip, just absolutely mind-bogglingly bad. Typing that actually made me sick to my stomach as a fan of the team but I’m here to report the facts.
So the Tigers can’t hit righties, we’ve established that. How about who’s on the mound for Detroit? On the bump today is Elvin Rodriguez. Elvin is an interesting pitcher, he was in the viral clip by Jomboy tipping pitches in his start against the Yankees. In that start he gave up 10 earned runs, this isn’t a typo. In 4.1 innings of work, he recorded 13 outs and allowed 10 runs. He has surprisingly shown signs of being a good pitcher at some point despite his 10+ ERA. With that being said, he has a ways to go and I think this Blue Jays lineup with Springer, Bichette, and Vlad should put some fear into the kid and make him allow some runs.
The Blue Jays have been a much better road team winning 7 of their last 8 on the road. The Tigers are much better at home but are still major underdogs in this game for a reason. We don’t need any miracles, just the Blue Jays to have a lead after five innings. Detroit's only advantage over Toronto is their bullpen, which won’t be a factor with this bet. On a slate that leaves much to be desired this is by far the play that stood out the most to me and I think -140 is more than reasonable juice to drink for something that has such a good chance of happening. Let's roll!
