This may not be a popular pick but I don’t mind. I get it, Martin Perez is pitching like Randy Johnson this year. With that being said, do we really in our heart of hearts believe that this is going to continue all year? At what point do we congratulate him on his great start and tell him “you can go back to being mediocre now” it feels like today. The White Sox hit a league-best .290 against lefties! They treat every at-bat against lefties the same Bobby Boucher treated the quarterback in The Waterboy. If there was ever a spot for Perez to come down to Earth then this is it.
Perez also has a 0.31 ERA on the road and is 31 years old, every sign points to these stats not remaining sustainable. To most these numbers mean to totally avoid but why not hop on while the getting is good. Lucas Giolito is on the bump for Chicago and these Rangers hitters are 4-29 against him lifetime. A .137 average isn’t exactly ideal for Texas today. Lifetime stats for Perez against Chicago are great for us. In 63 at-bats he has allowed 21 hits, that is a .333 average. Perez can't keep getting away with this!
This is an early game so make sure to get this bet in quick. Everyone who reads the articles or knows me personally knows that I’m a major law of averages guy. Perez is normally a below-average pitcher if anything and now he’s magically the 2nd best pitcher in the MLB only trailing Joe Musgrove? Stop it. I think Chicago can expose him and make him allow 5+ runs but I like the upside of the complete game moneyline because Texas has quite a few lefties out of the pen as well. I’ve seen this line already move from -140 to -150 at the time of writing which actually makes me more confident than the books want people to sucker bet on Texas, lets roll!
