St. Louis Cardinals vs Pittsburgh Pirates Prediction: Can Zack Thompson Shutdown the Pirates Lineup?

I was writing my strikeout watch article this morning when I saw what will likely go down as the greatest bet in the history of bets. That's how these things happen. One minute you're drinking coffee doing mental simulations and the next you are making history. It's a beautiful thing. Besides being a stone-cold lock, this bet has other things going for it too.

For starters, it's on at 7:45 pm ET. That's right, while we're watching NBA Finals' Pregame, we'll also be sweating out a bet. That's the best way to watch any pregame. Everyone knows that. On top of that, this one will also have already cashed by the time tip-off comes around a little after 9:00 pm on the east coast. At that point, we'll be able to fully dive into our NBA bets without distraction. This is literally the greatest play of all time.

Let's dive into my prediction, player prop pick, and the odds for the St. Louis Cardinals vs Pittsburgh Pirates game.

St. Louis Cardinals vs Pittsburgh Pirates Player Prop Pick

Zack Thompson Over 3.5 Strikeouts (-130) (Bet $130 to win $100)

*Odds available at Barstool at time of publishing*

This one is hanging at Barstool Sportsbook as we speak. If you can't play there, then take yourself over to DraftKings or FanDuel because they are both are hanging 3.5 for -140. Obviously, that's juicy but we have to take what we can get in this business. It's damn sure better than BetMGM because they haven't posted anything for this one. That's just sad. (Although I don't blame them.)

St. Louis Cardinals vs Pittsburgh Pirates Prediction

Here's the thing about this guy, he has the same name as another pitcher in the league so I think the books got them confused. That had to be it. There's no other explanation for this type of mistake. The thing is, the other Zach Thompson (spells his name with an "h") plays for this Zack Thompson's opponent so it further complicates things. It's a classic mixup and one we are going to profit from.

The thing about this Zack Thompson is he's got a 94 mph fastball but he throws his changeup at 87 mph. We're cooking with gas here people. The man fanned at least six guys in seven of his last eight minor league starts that lasted more than 10 batters. I know that this is his first MLB start but if we don't bet him here we'll never see this price again. This is basically like buying Amazon for under $1.00.

We're stacking the deck a little here too since Thompson gets to throw to the Pittsburgh Pirates tonight. In the last week, they've struck out 75 times in under 200 at-bats. What is that? Those are Little League numbers. On the season they've fanned seventh-most in MLB against lefties and every team ahead of them has seen more at-bats versus southpaws. We could legit see at least five guys in the lineup tonight that are 30+% strikeout guys against left-handers. This is the greatest bet of all time and it's not even close.
