Oakland Athletics vs. Boston Red Sox Prediction

This has been a lopsided series in favor of the Red Sox, a team who has been one of the best in all of baseball in the last month. It was a rocky start to the season for Boston, but as talented as this team is, many thought they could turn it around.

They have turned it around and put themselves right back in the playoff hunt. It has been a struggle for the Athletics from the start of the season. This is a team who blew up their roster in the offseason, as they normally do with large contracts. They are known for their money hall style, which means they rarely will pay players large amounts of money.

They are in a rebuilding phase, and their record shows it. It will be an uphill battle all year for Oakland, but they will look to pull the upset off today and avoid the sweep. One of the bright spots for the As has been right-hander Paul Blackburn, who gets the rock today. Blackburn enters play with an era of just 2.31, one of the best in baseball. The Sox will send former Athletic and Boston native Rich Hill to the mound today.

I am taking the Athletics team total under 4.5. This number is far too good to pass up despite me not being the biggest Rich Hill fan in the world. This is a benign offense that ranks second to last in runs scored per game averaging just 3.25. They are ice cold at the moment averaging 1.67 over their last three games. Boston's bullpen has not been taxed at all in this series, and I expect them to be sharp following Hill this afternoon. There are only one or two guys in this lineup that strike fear into me, and if Hill can handle them early, we will cruise to this win. Let’s stay red hot on the Diamond!
