ANALYSIS

Cincinnati Reds vs. Milwaukee Brewers Prediction: Will Joey Votto and the Reds Jump on Eric Lauer Early?

It hasn't been the most exciting season for the Cincinnati Reds. At 23-40, it's quite embarrassing, however, the Reds compete every night. The Reds will start a new home series against the Milwaukee Brewers, who are just 35-30 on the season after a brutal couple of weeks that were filled with losses.

Can the Brewers get back on track or will the Reds hold on against Milwaukee at home? Here are our picks, predictions, and odds for Friday's game between the Milwaukee Brewers and the Cincinnati Reds.

Reds vs. Brewers Line Movement

Cincinnati Reds vs. Milwaukee Brewers Prediction

Their record would be much better if the Cincinnati Reds had a bullpen.

Tonight, the Reds will send out Hunter Greene, who is 3-7 with a 5.10 ERA. However, Greene has improved recently and has an xFIP of 4.06 in the last 30 days. In those 30 days, Greene has struck out 32.7% of batters while only walking 5.6% of batters. He's struggling a bit with righties, allowing a .325 wOBA and ISO of .232 in the last 30 days but overall, Greene has been hard to hit as he continues to develop into an ace.

Greene will also take on a limited Brewers lineup that has a .139 ISO and wOBA of .282 against righties in the last 30 days with their projected lineup. The Brewers have hit just 18.4% of line drives in the last 30 days while hitting 46.1% of line drives in that same time frame.

Meanwhile, it'll be Eric Lauer on the mound for the Brewers. He started off the season red hot but has since struggled. He's 5-2 with a 3.36 ERA but don't let that fool you. He has had a 6.10 xFIP in the last 30 days with just 14.8% of strikeouts and 10.7% of walks.

The left-hander is giving up an ISO of .235 to lefties and a .182 ISO to righties in the last 30 days and will take on a Reds lineup that has a .289 ISO in the last 30 days with a wOBA of .399 in the last 30 days against lefties.

The Reds will also have Jonathan India back in the lineup, who doesn't have any stats against lefties this season. The lineup has hit 26.8% of line drives against lefties and Lauer has also allowed 25% of line drives in the last 30 days.

The Reds should be able to get on the board early against Lauer and Greene should be able to hold the lead for the Reds, at least in the first five innings. I'm not taking any chances with the Reds and their bullpen. Therefore, I'll take the Reds in the first five innings on the moneyline at -115.
