Boston Red Sox vs. Detroit Tigers Prediction
The Red Sox have currently won 5 series in a row and haven’t dropped a series yet 3 weeks into the month of June. In those 5 series, The Red Sox have gone 5-0 in game 1, which really speaks to the intensity and focus that the Red Sox have been bringing into the opening game against new opponents.
The Sox will be starting young right-handed pitching prospect, Josh Winckowski, who is coming off the best start of his young career as he tossed 5 scoreless innings against the Oakland Athletics. The Tigers are a very comparable team to the A’s as both teams have been very anemic on the offensive end lately and have really struggled to score runs. The Tigers are coming off a series though against the Rangers where their offense really woke up, so the main question tonight will be, Can the Tigers stay hot, or will Winckowski be able to cool them off? I believe the answer is the latter
The Tigers are a team that strikeout a lot and do not hit too many extra-base hits. They have really struggled to hit the ball out of the ballpark and Winckowski is a guy who induces a lot of soft contact so I think this is a favorable matchup for him.
On the other side for the Tigers tonight will be Alex Faedo who is coming off the worst start of his career against the White Sox. Faedo had been really good for 5-6 starts before that outing but this may be the start of some negative regression for him. In his last outing, he really struggled with his command as he left a lot of pitches out over the heart of the plate and was not getting ahead of too many hitters. I think he will continue to regress tonight against a hot Red Sox lineup who I expect to put up runs early and often. With that being said, I am rolling with Red Sox F5 -0.5 at -120 for 1U as my most confident MLB Play of the night as I think the Red Sox take a lead into the 6th inning.
