Milwaukee Brewers vs. St. Louis Cardinals Prediction: Will Corbin Burnes or Miles Mikolas Have the Upper Hand?

The Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals will play an important series to start off the new week. The Brewers and Cardinals are both currently 38-30 on the season. The NL Central is basically those two teams fighting for the division. In a four-game series, if one team can at least win three of four games, they'll push ahead in the standings. Here are our picks, predictions, and odds for Monday's game between the St. Louis Cardinals and Milwaukee Brewers.

Milwaukee Brewers vs. St. Louis Cardinals Prediction

The St. Louis Cardinals will send out Miles Mikolas for tonight's game. Mikolas was just one strike away from accomplishing a no-hitter last week against the Pirates. He's currently 5-4 with a 2.62 ERA on the season and has been above-average in the last 30 days.

In the last 30 days, Mikolas has a 4.08 xFIP with 22.7% of strikeouts and 5.3% of walks. Ground balls are being induced at 43% in those last 30 days and line drives are nearing 23%. Lefties have a .226 ISO against Mikolas through his last 65 plate appearances against them, but other than that, he's kept runners off the base paths at a consistent rate.

The Brewers, on the other hand, have a .165 ISO and wOBA of .295 in the last 30 days against righties. Milwaukee's lineup is only hitting 19.7% of line drives and is also only earning 7.6% of walks. Mikolas should be just fine.

On the flip side, Corbin Burnes will take the mound for the Brewers. He's the former NL Cy Young winner and has a 4-4 record with a 2.52 ERA on the season. In the last 30 days, Burnes has had a 3.40 xFIP with 33% of strikeouts. He's also limited power to both sides of the plate in the last 30 days and has been hard to hit overall.

He'll take on a Cardinals lineup that is above average with a .170 ISO and wOBA of .339. But this lineup is facing Burnes, not a random right-handed pitcher. Only Paul Goldschmidt has serious elevated power against righties in the last 30 days.

With that said, I like the under in the first five innings between these two pitchers. Mikolas is coming off the best game of his career while Burnes has been extremely consistent over the entire season.

Both pitchers literally have an ERA at 2.62 or lower and we're already in mid-June.
