Handicapper Ben Rajavuori is back with another top MLB bet for Tuesday night. The Kansas City Royals upset the Los Angeles Angels in the opener but will the Angels bounce back tonight behind Reid Detmers
ANALYSIS

Los Angeles Angels vs. Kansas City Royals Prediction: Should We Ride or Fade Reid Detmers and the Angels?

The Angels and Royals battle it out in the night slate once again tonight in game two of the series in Angel Stadium. The 33-37 Angels were bested at home by the 24-42 Royals in game one, losing by a score of 2-6. The Angels will try to bounce back to stay in second place in the AL West tonight. Can the Angels bounce back? Or do the Royals have their number?

Angels vs. Royals Line Movement

Los Angeles Angels vs. Kansas City Royals Prediction

Jonathan Heasley will get the start for the Royals tonight, and he has been serviceable, to say the most. Heasley is 1-3 with a 3.72 ERA on the season. The Royals started the season 0-5 in games started by Heasley but are now 2-5 after two good starts from Heasley. Heasley has been worse on the road, though, as he has a 4.42 road ERA compared to a 3.00 home ERA. Tonight's road start against the Angels will be no easy task, as the Angels have some of the best hitters in the AL at the top of the order.

The focus of this play lies on Reid Detmers. The 22-year-old is 2-3 with a 4.25 ERA, but he shows higher promise than his overall numbers suggest. Detmers is coming off a rough start against the Dodgers, where he allowed four earned runs in 3.2 innings of work, but then again, that's the Dodgers. Detmers is the only pitcher in 2022 to have a solo no-hitter, and even if that was a fluke, it at least shows his potential. Detmers also got this no-no at home, where he has shown to be much more comfortable. Detmers has a 2.7 ERA at home over six starts and 33.1 total innings, while he has a 6.86 ERA over five road starts in 19.2 combined innings. His command has also been much better at home. He has 8 walks in 33.1 innings at home and 11 walks in 19.2 innings on the road.

Detmers true trouble, and the thing that has inflated his ERA, is his starts against the Rangers. For some reason, the Rangers have Detmer's number. Detmers has had three starts against the Rangers this year and allowed 13 earned runs in 13 innings against them for a 9.00 ERA. However, every other team not named the Rangers, Detmers has pitched well against. In seven starts against other teams, Detmers has a 2.67 ERA over 40.1 innings. This, combined with his home pitching stats, makes me believe Detmers is in for a quality start against one of the worst batting teams in the league.

The Angels have done well on the first-five spread at home with a 19-14-3 record. The Royals have been piss-poor on the road, with an 8-18-7 first-five record, which is third-worst in the MLB. Even though Detmers has the higher ERA, I trust him more in this spot, and the line on the Angels means the books agree with me. Take the Angels at home to bounce back and be leading after the first half.
