Oakland Athletics vs. Kansas City Royals Prediction
The Oakland Athletics will send out Paul Blackburn to the mound for tonight's game. Blackburn has been one of the few bright spots for the Athletics this season, as he's carrying a 2.26 ERA on the season.
However, analytics are painting a different story. Blackburn has had a 5.38 xFIP in the last 30 days with just 13.7% of strikeouts and 8.1% of walks. To lefties, the right-hander has allowed a wOBA of .363 through his last 52 plate appearances against them.
The Mariners have a couple of lefties that can do serious damage. Taylor Trammell is the first that comes to mind. He has a .245 ISO and a wOBA of .348 in the last 30 days against righties. J.P. Crawford is another lefty with a .360 wOBA and just a 6.2% strikeout rate in the last 30 days against righties.
There's also Cal Raleigh, who has a .291 ISO against righties. He's a switch-hitter, who will bat from the left side. And although Jesse Winker and Adam Frazier have struggled, those are two veteran bats with a ton of potential from the left side.
Meanwhile, the Mariners will pitch George Kirby, who has a 3.56 ERA on the season. The right-hander has had a 3.67 xFIP in the last 30 days. He's struck out 25.6% of batters in the last 30 days with just 2.6% of walks.
He's also been able to induce close to 50% of grounders in those last 30 days while allowing just 14.5% of line drives.
Kirby has been very good as of late and gets to take on an Athletics lineup that has a .141 ISO and wOBA of .275 in the last 30 days. Oakland has also hit just 17.4% of line drives with their lineup and has hit nearly 46% of ground balls while getting 5.8% of walks.
I'm all in on the Mariners tonight, on the road.
