New York Yankees vs. Houston Astros Prediction
The Yankees will pitch Jameson Taillon for tonight's series opener. Taillon has an 8-1 record with a 2.70 ERA on the season. In the last 30 days, however, he has had an xFIP of 3.70 with 22.2% of strikeouts. He's also walked just 3.4% of batters in that time frame. Taillon has struggled a bit against lefties when it comes to power, however. Lefties have a .224 ISO against Taillon in their last 52 plate appearances against him. Taillon has also allowed 25.3% of line drives in that same time frame against both righties and lefties. Although, lefties have 28.2% of line drives against Taillon in those 30 days. The Astros have a .167 ISO and wOBA of .320 against righties in the last 30 days. Yordan Alvarez, a left-handed slugger, has a .302 ISO and wOBA of .503 against righties in those 30 days. He's one to watch out for against Taillon, who, again, has allowed a lot of power to lefties recently.

Meanwhile, Framber Valdez will get the start for the Astros. He's 7-3 with a 2.78 ERA on the season. He also has a 3.64 xFIP with 21.6% of strikeouts and 6.7% of walks in the last 30 days. In that same time frame, Valdez has induced over 70% of ground balls and has allowed less than 15% of line drives. He's also taking on a Yankees projected lineup that has struck out 28.2% of the time against lefties. There are plenty of power bats in the lineup for the Yankees between Anthony Rizzo, Josh Donaldson, Gleybar Torres, and Kyle Higashioka. All four of those batters are hitting at least a .286 ISO against lefties. However, all but two batters in the Yankees lineup have struck out 20% of the time or greater against lefties in the last 30 days. Therefore, I like how Valdez matches up more than Taillon and will bet the Astros as underdogs at +115 for tonight's series opener.
