Those are excellent numbers but let's take a look at who those starts came against. 3 came against the Royals, Athletics, and Nationals, 3 of the worst teams in the league this season. All of those teams are simply atrocious and really didn’t pose any threat to Valdez as they simply don’t have the offensive talent to compete.
2 of his other road starts came against the Rangers and D-Backs who are currently below .500 and have been very inconsistent on the season, but at the same time are still much better than the Royals, A’s, or Nats. In those starts against the D-Backs and Rangers, the Astros as a team lost both of those games and walked 7 batters in just 9 innings across those 2 starts.
Valdez is a great talent but he has only faced 2 teams this season with a record over .500 which came against the Blue Jays and Guardians. In those 2 starts he allowed 6 earned runs across 13 and 1/3rd innings for a much more pedestrian 4.05 ERA. I really think Valdez is going to struggle against one of the better offensive lineups he will face all season and fully expect Taillon to hold it done on the other end as he has pitched like an ace this season. With that being said, I am rolling with Yankees F5 ML at -115 and Yankees Full Game ML at -122 for 1U each as my most confident MLB Picks of the Night.
