Handicapper and MLB player prop specialist John Hyslop is back again this Saturday with another top strikeout prop bet to add. This time his pick comes from the Tampa Bay Rays vs. Pittsburgh Pirates matchup eyeing veteran right-hander Corey Kluber.
ANALYSIS

Tampa Bay Rays vs. Pittsburgh Pirates Prediction: Can Corey Kluber Mow Down Oneil Cruz and the Pirates?

When I look at the board on a Saturday, I like to pretend it's a football Sunday. What I mean by that is, I like to see if I can bet a 1 pm, 4 pm, and 8 pm game. That way, I can be ready when football season rolls around because I've been living that life all summer. I know I can do it on Sundays, but it's my belief that a real gambler can do it on Saturdays too. If we can do that, we'll be twice as ready when football comes back around. Any edge you can get is a good edge people. The only real issue is the fact that there normally aren't many 1 pm games to choose from on Saturdays. When that happens, I like to force something. I like to find any ridiculous edge I can find and pretend like it really means something. That's what this game we play is all about people.

Tampa Bay Rays vs. Pittsburgh Pirates Prediction

Corey Kluber Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-105) (Bet $105 to Win $100)

*Odds Available at DraftKings*

We're at DraftKings here but honestly we could go anywhere. FanDuel has 5.5 at -116 and BetMGM has 5.5 (-125). Obviously, the better price is at DraftKings but let's not kid ourselves and say it's unbetable at the other shops. We're talking about a 1:00 pm ET bet on an MLB game here people. Beggars can't be choosers.

Corey Kluber at 5.5 would have been a no-brainer back in the day people. He's old now but this guy used to clean up. We're talking about sitting guys down left and right. Guys used to just go sit down when he got two strikes on him just to save time. He was a menace. But now at 36, he's just a regular guy but don't let him fool you, he can get still fan a few guys for us. He's sitting at 60 strikeouts in 67.2 innings of work this season so he's flying under the radar a bit which is just what we want.

I hate going 6+ on guys like Kluber since he's only done this in four of 13 starts this season but today could be the perfect storm. The game is a daytime game which is great for old guys because they don't stay up late anymore. Kluber has 33 strikeouts in 36 innings of work during the day this season so the old guy/daytime theory checks out. He should also be getting James Hoye calling balls and strikes which is great since that's the same ump that was behind the plate when Kluber fanned a season-high eight Detroit Tigers at the Trop back on May 16th.

The biggest thing Kluber has going for him is the fact that the Pittsburgh Pirates are in town. Over the last week, only two MLB teams have struck out more than they have. We could legit see six guys that have fanned at least 27% of their at-bats over that span in the lineup today. In terms of daytime hitting, Pittsburgh is a 26% strikeout team in day games this season so there's that too. If we're forcing a play today, I think this is the one we should force.
