Los Angeles Angels vs. Seattle Mariners Prediction: Will Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani Avoid the Sweep?
The Angels and Mariners close out a three-game series from Angel stadium today. The Angels are once again facing the threat of being swept and need this win to salvage a game from the series. The books have the Angels favored to get it done, as they sit around -135 on most books. Can the Angels stave off a sweep in the series closer?

Los Angeles Angels vs. Seattle Mariners Prediction
Jose Suarez gets the nod for the Angels today, and he is 0-2 with a 5.00 ERA. Suarez is in his fourth season with the Angels, and despite a solid 2021, he struggled to start the season. Suarez only had one start in May after a rough start in April, going 0-2 over four starts with a 6.35 ERA. Suarez has been improving, though. In his two starts since his break, Suarez has a combined 2.89 ERA. In his most recent start, Suarez shut down the Mariners, going 4.1 innings without giving up a run. Suarez has done well against the Mariners historically as well. The Angels have won the last two games Suarez started against the Mariners, as Suarez went 4.1 innings with 0 runs and 5 innings with 1 run. The Mariners have also hit lefties much weaker this season, with a .220 average against lefties and a .240 average against righties.
Marco Gonzales gets the start for the Mariners today. Gonzales is 4-7 with a 3.33 ERA on the season. Gonzales is solid, but the Mariners are 1-3 over his last four starts. The Mariners have a few usuals out of the lineup as well, with Adam Frazier and Cal Raleigh getting the day off. On top of a few injuries, this is not the best Mariners lineup we are seeing today. The Angels lineup is yet to be released, but I would be surprised to see too many starters sitting, considering the Angels are facing a sweep at home and need this win badly.
The Angels play much better at home. The Angels are hitting .253 at home this season, compared to .222 on the road, and their OPS is 100 points higher at home. They also have a positive 11-9 record in day games, despite sitting below .500 overall. None of this is the decider in this pick, but it adds a few elements. I mainly like this pick because Suarez is starting to look much better and has historically pitched well against the Mariners. The Angels have their back against the wall and need a win here. The Mariners are resting a few starters and don't have their top lineup. All this to say, I believe the Angels will take care of business this afternoon.
