Despite losing Bryce Harper after he was hit by a pitch resulting in a fractured left thumb, the Phillies took a 2-1 series lead in San Diego last night. MLB expert Jason Radowitz gives his prediction and pick for San Diego Padres vs. Philadelphia Phillies
ANALYSIS

San Diego Padres vs. Philadelphia Phillies Prediction: Will the Phillies Rally Without Bryce Harper?

The Philadelphia Phillies defeated the San Diego Padres last night, 4-2. However, the Phillies lost Bryce Harper, who is now out with a fractured thumb. Harper was hit by a pitch in the fourth inning and will now be out for a long period of time. Meanwhile, the Padres are still without their star Manny Machado, who has an injured ankle. Plus, you can't forget Fernando Tatis Jr., who has also been out for the Padres.

With the lack of stars present for today's game, how should you bet it? Here are our picks, predictions, and odds for Sunday's game between the Philadelphia Phillies vs. San Diego Padres.

San Diego Padres vs. Philadelphia Phillies Prediction

The Philadelphia Phillies will pitch Kyle Gibson for today's rubber match against the Padres. Gibson has a 4-3 record with a 4.06 ERA on the season. In the last 30 days, Gibson has had an xFIP of 4.48 with just 17.6% of strikeouts, but he's also been able to limit walks to 5% and induce 47.8% of ground balls in that same time frame.

Gibson has allowed a low wOBA to both sides of the plate in the last 30 days and while he's allowed a little bit of power to both sides of the plate, he hasn't been awful in that regard either.

He'll take on a Padres lineup that is very inconsistent. At the top of the order, the Padres are raking, but at the bottom, against righties, the Padres have struggled. From Eric Hosmer, in the clean-up spot, to Jose Azocar, in the nine spot, not a single player has a higher ISO than .138.

Meanwhile, Yu Darvish will get the start for the Padres. He's 7-3 with a 3.17 ERA on the season. He's pitched just as well as you'd expect this season.

In the last 30 days, Darvish has had a 4.98 xFIP with just 19.3% of strikeouts. But just like Gibson, he's limited walks and has also limited line drives in the last 30 days to help his numbers out a bit.

The Phillies have walked just 7.4% of the time using the projected lineup against righties in the last 30 days and have a wOBA of just .310 against righties.

It's hard to trust these two offenses without their biggest bats in the lineup. I'll side with the under in the final game of the series. This should be a fun rubber match!
