San Diego Padres vs. Philadelphia Phillies Prediction

The Philadelphia Phillies and the San Diego Padres game will take place from San Diego on Sunday afternoon for the final game of this four-game set. The Phillies won games one and two of this series and will look to close the series out with a big road win.

The Phillies won last night, but a big loss came with it. That loss was Bryce Harper. Harper got hit in the hand with a fastball from Blake Snell that will put him on the IL for an extended period of time. Harper was having yet another MVP-caliber season, so this is a massive blow to this Phillies team. They have turned the corner after dropping well over .500. A great June has them back to three games over the .500 mark. They will send veteran right-hander Kyle Gibson to the mound today to try and shut down this Padres lineup.

Gibson will be opposed by Yu Darvish, who, when right, is one of the best pitchers in all of baseball. The Padres are currently dealing with a lot of injuries of their own as they are without their two best players in Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis Jr. Tatis has not played yet this season. Once he returns, this lineup can become one of the most dangerous in baseball. 

I am going to back the Padres this afternoon on the moneyline. I understand the Phillies have had a great June and been hot as of late, but this is the perfect spot for the Padres today. In my eyes, Yu Darvish is one of the best arms in all of baseball, and he should control this game today.

The loss of Bruce Harper is a tough one to deal with emotionally which could cause Philly to come out a bit flat. The second reason is the Phillies have been on a long road trip that will conclude today. This is tough for teams when you have to play that final late game Sunday afternoon before heading home. This should be a good fade spot for the Phillies today.
