The Royals have had a tough season so far, representing one of the worst records in all of baseball. Kansas City knew this would be a tough year going in as they struggled a season ago. This is a team that just does not have a ton of talent, especially on the pitching end.

The one bright spot for the Royals this season has been young star Bobby Witt Jr. Witt Jr has come on the scene and dominated. He leads the Royals in runs batted in, runs scored, slugging percentage, OPS, stolen bases, doubles, and triples. That is a lot of heavy lifting for a rookie, but he has been up to the challenge this season. Veteran outfielder Andrew Benintendi has also quietly had a great year for Kansas City, leading the team in batting average and OBP.

The Rangers started slow, but they have turned their season around and now sit around the .500 mark. This is a team that has the talent offensively. The issue coming into the year was thought to be pitching. One guy who has not had any problems pitching is the man getting the ball tonight veteran southpaw Martin Perez. Perez is one of the current favorites to win Cy Young, and for a good reason. He enters the game tonight with a 5-2 record and an era of just 1.96. 

I am taking the Royals on the money line tonight. I understand how good Perez is but let’s diagnose this line for a second. Martin Perez has likely been the best arm in the American League this season, yet he is just a 140 favorite tonight against a guy who has an era of 7.41 and is 1-4 in Kris Bubic? This is a classic trap line set by the oddsmakers, and I will not fall for it.

On paper, this is a Rangers play, but I am trusting that Bubic will turn in a solid outing and that this Royals lineup will find success against Perez, who is due for some type of regression. This is the perfect spot for the dog in the Royals tonight to start off our week!
