About 99% of the time I leave strikeouts for other people to bet on. Today I just had to bet this though. Wheeler has hit this prop in 9 of his last 10 games. Additionally, he faces the team who strikes out the most in baseball. How could we not bet this? This won’t last long. Wheeler started the year shaky but has been dominant as of late. He has only allowed 11 runs in his last 10 games, the guy is pitching on another level. I feel like it hasn’t been getting talked about enough but that plays into our favor and gives us gifts like this.
Wheelers hit rate has been amazing, but what pushes me over the top is his history versus these batters. Wheeler has plenty of experience against these Atlanta bats. In 181 at-bats against him, he struck out 59 batters. That’s good for 32.5% K rate if you’re not including the walks. Wheeler is a lock to go at least 6 innings so we just need him to get 1 strikeout an inning with one inning him overachieving with 2 for our win with 7. Wheeler is so lockdown I wouldn’t be shocked if he goes deeper than 6 but this bet can certainly hit even if he records just 18 outs.
A 90% hit rate in the last 10 games, facing a team that K’s the most, and what we haven’t mentioned yet is that he’s pitching at home. At Citizens Bank Park we have seen Wheeler absolutely deal this year. The man has a 1.49 home ERA and Philly used four bullpen arms last night. I could see him being extended for more K opportunities. In the last two years, Wheeler has faced Atlanta 6 times and has hit this in 5/6. More importantly, this year when he played them he dominated with 10. I'm surprised this is even available and not more popular than it is. Maybe it’s a complete trick but consider me fooled, I love this bet.
