St. Louis Cardinals vs. Miami Marlins Best Bets: Will Dakota Hudson and the Cardinals Take Control Early?

Well, guys for my first piece here this evening I am going to keep it simple and easy for us with just two straight bets. I backed the birds yesterday personally and gave them out for free to you all as a parlay leg but the other leg sank it despite an easy 9-0 victory from the Cardinals. I am going back to my guys here tonight as I think they are looking at a great spot to roll that momentum forward as does their starting pitcher.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Miami Marlins Prediction

Dakota Hudson has slowly taken on a larger role in the Cardinals' starting rotation the last few seasons and seems to have finally earned an official spot. In my opinion, it goes deeper than that though, I believe this guy has an opportunity to lock up a top-three spot in the rotation going forward if he wishes.

Hudson is 5-4 with a 3.72 ERA and 1.35 WHIP across 75 innings of work. His home and road splits show a drop off away from Busch Stadium ( 2-3 4.57 ERA on road; 3-1 2.67 ERA at home) although that goes for a lot of pitchers and the rougher outings were against valid opponents (@ Boston, @ San Fran, @ NYM, 2x @ Milwaukee).

The good news is we get him at home tonight where the dude arguably looks like an ace and as I said earlier, he is making an argument for himself here this year. With Jack Flaherty back on the injured list, Mikolas, Wainwright, and himself make up the top three in the rotation; with Waino’s retirement coming soon Hudson can earn Olli Marmol’s confidence early if he keeps throwing the ball like he has this year.

The St. Louis Cardinals offense sounded off for nine runs last night and the whole lineup appears to be hungry at the plate right now. They hit southpaws even better than they do righties and tonight they face one with a WHIP just a bit shy of nearly a 2.00.

I said it earlier in the year and I will say it again: the St. Louis Cardinals fan base is one of the best in sports. They love this team, these players, and families are going to games to see Yadier Molina, Albert Pujols, and Adam Wainwright as they play their farewell tour season but those guys all want to win. They bring about a culture to Cardinals baseball that existed when they won two titles not too long ago. This team is playing really great baseball and I see no reason to not back them at home again here tonight.
