St. Louis Cardinals vs. Miami Marlins Prediction

There’s no doubt that the Marlins struggle on the road, where they’re only 14-23. Miami has lost seven of their last nine games away from home, so I’m not too confident that they’ll be turning things around on the road anytime soon. On the other hand, the Cardinals have been improving their record at home, where they’ve won 10 of their last 14 games, and are 23-15 on the season.

Speaking of excelling at home, the Cardinals are starting Dakota Hudson. At Busch Stadium, Hudson holds a 2.67 ERA. Admittedly, Hudson has struggled a bit more than usual over his last three starts, but tonight’s game against the Marlins should prove an excellent bounce-back spot.

Miami is going with southpaw Braxton Garrett. Unfortunately for the Garrett and the Marlins, the Cardinals do quite well against left-handed pitchers. More specifically, Garrett should be most afraid of Paul Goldschmidt, who appears to be in the lineup tonight. Not only did he go 4-4 with 2 RBIs against Miami last night, but he’s also a left-handed pitcher’s nightmare: he bats 0.451 with a 1.384 OPS, making him by far the most lethal hitter in the league against lefties.

The Cardinals are now 3-1 against the Marlins this season. St. Louis has the offensive edge over the Marlins and the pitching advantage with Hudson and a decent bullpen behind him. Back the Cardinals on the money line (-145) to secure another win against Miami.
