ANALYSIS

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Atlanta Braves Prediction: Will Matt Olson and the Braves Continue to Roll?

The Braves and Phillies meet in game two of the series from Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia tonight at 7:05 p.m. EST. The Braves have been on a magical run in June, going 20-5 in their 25 games during the month. However, they aren't the only hot team in Philly, as the Phillies were 18-6 in June entering the series last night. The run was much needed for the Phillies, who went 10-18 in May. The Braves were able to get the better of the home team in game one, winning 5-3. Who is poised to take game two?

Phillies vs. Braves Line Movement

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Atlanta Braves Prediction

Kyle Wright gets the nod in Philly for the Braves tonight. Wright is coming off back-to-back iffy outings with a 7.1 ERA combined in his last two starts. Even with his previous two starts, Wright is 8-4 with a 3.18 ERA on the season. Wright is surprisingly better on the road this year, as he has a 3.1 road ERA versus a 3.21 ERA ERA at home. He is also a better pitcher in night starts, as he has a 2.61 ERA in night games versus a 3.93 ERA in day games. The last time Wright pitched against the Phillies, he went 6.2 innings with three earned runs, but the Braves gave him no run support, and they lost 1-4. The Braves have actually lost Wright's last three starts against the Phillies, even though two have been quality starts. I think he is due for a win against the Phillies tonight.

Ranger Suarez is the starter for the Phillies tonight, and he has also struggled against the opposition, with his last start against the Braves being a 4.1 inning outing with five runs allowed. Ranger has oddly been a worse pitcher at Citizens Bank Park, with a 1-3 record and 5.1 ERA at home, which is worse than his overall 6-4 record and 4.23 ERA. Ranger is also a lefty, and the Braves have crushed lefties this year. The Braves are third in OPS against lefties with a .809 OPS. The Braves are just 25-24 in games against right-handed starters this season but are 18-8 in games against left-handed starters.

The Brave's record for wins in June all-time is 21. They are at 20 after last night's win, which means that with a win tonight, the Braves can not only tie the franchise record for wins in June but beat it tomorrow if they were to sweep. It's always a good idea to back hot bats in MLB, but I also like the idea of Wright getting a win after two subpar outings and a loss against the Phillies last time against them. Back the Braves to tie the franchise record for wins in June tonight.
