New York Mets vs Texas Rangers Prediction: Can Chris Bassitt and The Mets End Their Losing Streak?
It took 76 games, but the New York Mets have finally lost three consecutive games, as they dropped their series finale against the Marlins and then were swept at home in two games against the Houston Astros. New York can blame a poor offense for its three-game losing streak, as it scored just three runs in the last 27 innings. That is uncharacteristic of how the Mets have played all season, as they rank third in the league in scoring with 366 runs.
Will a weekend series against the Rangers be just what the doctor ordered in correcting their offensive woes? Or will Texas extend New York's season-long losing streak and send the Mets to their fourth consecutive loss?
Read on for our prediction, best play, and odds for Friday's series opener between the Rangers and Mets.

New York Mets vs Texas Rangers Prediction
Tonight's starting pitching matchup is one between two pitchers that are headed in opposite directions lately. Texas’ Glenn Otto (4-3, 5.31) made his first start since being activated off the COVID-19 list last week and was lit up for six runs in two innings against the Nationals.
Meanwhile, New York's Chris Bassitt (6-5, 4.01) is looking for his third win in his last four starts and is coming off an outing against the Marlins, where he allowed three runs over seven innings.
Bassitt has made quality starts in each of his last three appearances, and his 9.5 K/9 rate ranks 14th among all qualified pitchers. He is very familiar with the Rangers from his time in Oakland, and he is 5-2 with a 3.07 ERA in 13 career appearances (nine starts) against Texas. However, the biggest reason to be confident in Bassitt in this start is how he has handled the Rangers' hottest bats in his career.

Adolis Garcia and Nathaniel Lowe are a combined 0-for-20 with eight strikeouts against Bassitt, while the two batted .314 and .307 respectively in June, with 14 home runs between them. Bassitt's ability to neutralize them will go a long way in helping to lead New York to victory.
Though New York enters on a three-game losing streak, Texas' pitching staff is nothing like what New York saw in the last two days when facing Justin Verlander and Framber Valdez. The Mets will prove tonight why they are so unaccustomed to losing streaks, as they are 21-6 in their last 27 games following a loss. Thursday's day off should also serve New York well, as it is 26-8 in its previous 34 games following an off day.
New York is being undersold in this matchup, given it enters amid its longest losing streak of the season, but it will take care of a Rangers team that has won just one of its last seven series (1-5-1) against winning teams.
