Handicapper and player prop expert John Hyslop is back with a top MLB player prop bet for Sunday afternoon. He's looking at the Los Angeles Dodgers vs San Diego Padres game with his sights set on MacKenzie Gore.
ANALYSIS

Los Angeles Dodgers vs San Diego Padres Best Bet: Can MacKenzie Gore Shut Down Trea Turner and the Dodgers?

At 4:10 pm ET today, we're going to see the San Diego Padres take on the Los Angeles Dodgers on MLB Network. It's going to be glorious. Everyone knows that. It will be right in the middle of a pool party that I'm going to which makes it a must-win. Anytime you have a bet going when you're at a party, it's must-win territory. It just makes the party better since you have that unstoppable feeling that only winning a bet can give you. Pure electricity.

Lucky for us, I went ahead and did a deep dive into this game. I went so deep on this one. Deeper than I've ever been (probably). A lot of people didn't think I would even be able to come back up I went so deep. Most don't even know these depths even exist. We're talking deep here. But as always, excruciatingly hard work paid off. When I was down there I saw a bet that has a 0.0% chance of losing. Maybe even less. I can't believe we're even allowed to bet this.

Dodgers vs. Padres Line Movement

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Diego Padres Best Bet

MacKenzie Gore Over 4.5 Strikeouts (-120) (Bet $120 to win $100)

*Odds available at BetMGM at time of publishing*

This one is at BetMGM and it's the perfect price. Obviously, I would like a plus money move, but the books are in business to make money. I don't even know if I would have accepted a plus money move on Gore. Feels like cheating. If you're at FanDuel or DraftKings, you'll have to come with a little more cash since they both are above the -130 mark for this one. Still, I'd play it. I didn't dive deep for nothing.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Diego Padres Prediction

This MacKenzie Gore kid is already in the Circle of Trust so we know what he's all about. He's got 65 strikeouts in 59.1 innings pitched this season so we know he's legit. We want a guy that can be as close to equal as possible in innings pitched and strikeouts. The books don't know what to do with those guys. The thing I like most about Gore is the fact that he just stopped striking guys out a few games ago to get his numbers closer to equal. That's heads-up stuff right there.

In his last three games, Gore has transformed himself back into a 4.5 guy we can all get behind. He did it by barely striking out anyone in those starts. The thing is, two of his starts we against the Colorado Rockies so they don't even count. That team just doesn't strike out and they are decent against lefties too. By decent I mean the highest OPS in MLB against southpaws (nbd). The other start was against the Philadelphia Phillies and he got four of them so he's kind of back.

Today Gore will get to see the Los Angeles Dodgers for the first time in his career (probably). We're talking about a team that fans 25+% of the time against left-handers so far this season. They strike out against pretty much anyone though. Over the last two weeks, no team in MLB has struck out as much as the Dodgers. There's a chance we could see at least six guys in the lineup today that are whiffing at 27% or more over that two-week period. The names I'm looking for are Eddy Alvarez and Hanser Alberto when the lineup card comes out but even if those guys are sitting today, Gore should still get home on this number.
