Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Diego Padres Prediction

It's been an awful weekend for the Padres, who have now lost three straight to the Dodgers.

The Padres will pitch MacKenzie Gore, a left-handed pitcher who has struggled recently. The rookie left-hander has a 6.01 xFIP in the last 30 days with 16.3% of walks.

Still, on the season, he's 4-3 with a 3.34 ERA. He's shown a lot of potential this season. However, the strikeouts are lowering and the walks are increasing as the season carries on. That's not good news for the Padres.

The Dodgers have activated Mookie Betts from the Injured List to play in today's game. He'll likely return for today's game, which is even more of a threat against MacKenzie Gore. The Dodgers haven't hit lefties all that well. Only Betts, Freeman, Trea Turner, and Will Smith have inflated numbers against lefties. So that's something to think about.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers will pitch Clayton Kershaw, who is a much better lefty, holding a 4.71 xFIP in the last 30 days. The veteran has a 5-2 record with a 2.94 ERA on the season. However, he hasn't been amazing recently, allowing 9.1% of walks and a BABIP of .362 in the last 30 days.

The Padres don't have much offense either against lefties. Only Jorge Alfaro has consistent numbers against lefties in the Padres lineup and that's with just 19 plate appearances against lefties in the last 30 days.

The Dodgers have the better lineup but neither team has consistent hitters. I'm looking at the under in this game and hoping that Gore can give the Padres five or six shutdown innings. It's exactly what they need.
