The Cardinals currently hold the final wildcard spot in the national league and sit on the heels of the Brewers for first place in the NL Central. The Cardinals have one of the best lineups in all of baseball headlined by Nolan Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt. Goldschmidt is putting together an MVP-caliber kind of season and has been a huge part of the success of the Cardinals.
The Phillies got off to a rocky start but have since turned around their season, and they sit 2.5 games behind St Louis for the final wildcard spot in the national league. The Phillies went after a pair of big names in the off-season when they inked contracts with Nicholas Castellanos and Kyle Schwarber.
They added these two guys to an already explosive offensive lineup led by Bruce Harper. Harper is the reigning MVP of the national league and was having another MVP-caliber season until last Saturday when he got hit in the hand by a pitch from Padres pitcher Blake Snell. Harper's reaction told the tale, and he could be out for the rest of the season, which would be a massive blow for this Phillies team.
