Chicago White Sox vs Minnesota Twins Prediction
Chicago starts this series in third place in the standings, 4.5 games back of the first-place Twins. However, oddsmakers still believe in the White Sox’s chances to win the division for the second consecutive year, as their futures odds are almost even with Minnesota’s at +145 compared to +125.
The White Sox may already be amid their midseason push to overtake the Twins, as they are 10-4 in their last 14 road games. Entering yesterday’s series finale against San Francisco, the White Sox had a collective .790 OPS in their previous 13 road games and were averaging 5.42 runs per game. Though they managed just 14 total hits in the first two wins of the San Francisco series, Chicago followed that up with 13 runs in the series finale (tied for a season-high) and five extra-base hits, though it impressively scored those 13 runs without hitting a single home run.

While Chicago was busy belting 17 hits yesterday, Minnesota was getting no-hit in the fifth inning by Baltimore’s Tyler Wells. Over the last 14 days, the Twins offense ranks 14th in batting average (.252) and 19th in on-base percentage (.304). We expect them to struggle again when facing Johnny Cueto (2-4, 3.33), whose .270 BABIP makes him one of two White Sox starters with a BABIP less than .313. Cueto’s 1.14 WHIP is also second among all pitchers in Chicago’s starting rotation.
Minnesota’s starting rotation is sixth-best in baseball with a 3.54 ERA, but that does not translate into success when Dylan Bundy (4-4, 4.71) pitches. The Twins are 0-5 in Bundy’s last five starts with four days of rest. He threw five scoreless innings in a start against Chicago on April 23, but the White Sox offense has been too hot lately to keep down again. The White Sox are 9-2 in their last 11 home games against Minnesota, and we expect them to take this series opener, given the Twins’ have their most vulnerable pitcher on the mound.
