Can the Toronto Blue Jays earn the win in their series opener against the Oakland Athletics? Jason Radowitz answers.
ANALYSIS

Oakland Athletics vs. Toronto Blue Jays Prediction: Can Alek Manoah and The Blue Jays Dominate?

The Toronto Blue Jays are currently 44-36 on the season. They're nowhere close to first place in the AL East but have a chance to earn some wins to start the week. Toronto will play a road series against the Oakland Athletics, who are 26-55 on the season. One more loss would put the Athletics 30 games under .500 for the season. Will 30 games under .500 become a reality after tonight's game for Oakland?

Here are our picks, predictions, and odds for Monday's game between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Oakland Athletics.

Oakland Athletics vs. Toronto Blue Jays Prediction

The Toronto Blue Jays will send out Alek Manoah, who is 9-2 with a 2.09 ERA on the season. He's been one of the more consistent pitchers in baseball and has done a very good job earning a high amount of strikeouts while limiting walks. In the last 30 days, Manoah has a 4.49 xFIP, proving that he's been a bit lucky as of late, however, he's still limiting the power and weighted on-base averages at a high rate. Tonight, he'll take on an Oakland Athletics lineup that has a .144 ISO and wOBA of .300 against righties in the last 30 days. Only Seth BRown and Sean Murphy of the Athletics have elevated numbers against righties in the last 30 days. The rest of the lineup is just struggling on all cylinders in the last 30 days.

On the other hand, it'll be Cole Irvin on the mound for the Athletics. The left-handed pitcher has a 2-6 record with a 3.58 ERA. However, like Manoah, he's been much worse than his ERA. Irvin is holding a 4.88 xFIP in the last 30 days while allowing 25.8% of line drives in that same time frame. Irvin also isn't known for inducing a high amount of grounders and has also allowed over 47% of hard contact in the last 30 days. Meanwhile, the Blue Jays' projected lineup should have at least eight righties to go up against the lefty. The projected lineup would also have a .286 ISO and wOBA of .382 in the last 30 days against lefties. Only George Springer and Lourdes Gurriel have struggled against lefties in the last 30 days in this Blue Jays lineup. The rest of the lineup has been sensational against lefties. Every other player has a .222 ISO or greater. Six of the nine batters have a wOBA of .400 or greater against lefties. Therefore, I'll side with the Blue Jays to win on the runline against the Athletics, on the road.
