Arizona Diamondbacks vs. San Francisco Giants Prediction: Can Christian Walker and the Diamondbacks Stay Hot?

The San Francisco Giants are getting closer and closer to being a .500 team this year. The Giants lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks last night, 8-3, and are now just 40-38 on the season. Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks have surprised some folks with a 36-44 record. Arizona won't be contending for the playoffs but is starting to elevate their franchise a bit.

Can the Diamondbacks keep their momentum going and defeat the Giants for the second straight day? Here are our picks, predictions, and odds for Tuesday's game between the Arizona Diamondbacks vs. San Francisco Giants.

Diamondbacks vs. Giants Line Movement

Arizona Diamondbacks vs. San Francisco Giants Prediction

The Diamondbacks will send out Tyler Gilbert, who will be throwing in his fifth game this season. He’s currently 0-3 with a 7.88 ERA on the year and last pitched against the Reds on June 7, finishing with an xFIP of 10.93.

In that game against the Reds, he allowed five hits, six runs in 1.2 innings, and two walks. Gilbert is left-handed and will take on a Giants lineup that has really struggled against lefties, despite all the righties projected to be in the lineup.

The projected lineup for the Giants has a .128 ISO and wOBA of .288 in the last 30 days. Only Austin Slater has elevated numbers against lefties in the last 30 days regarding ISO and wOBA.

Meanwhile, the Giants will also send out their lefty in Alex Wood. Wood is 5-7 with a 5.03 ERA on the year.

But, to be fair, in the last 30 days, Wood has had a 3.95 xFIP with nearly 54% of grounders and just 4.8% of walks. He’s been much better recently in comparison to his ERA. However, he will take on a much harder opponent in the Diamondbacks. Arizona has been the opposite of the Giants and has guys that destroy left-handed pitching.

Arizona has a .202 ISO and wOBA of .352 against lefties in the last 30 days. The top of the order is elite, but the bottom of the order is struggling with a high amount of grounders and a low amount of power.

But with eight righties likely in the lineup against Wood, the Diamondbacks figure to earn a solid amount of runs in this game too. Arizona also has limited strikeouts to under 18%, with their projected lineup in the last 30 days against lefties.

Therefore, I like the Over 9.5 in this game. The Giants' offense has been pathetic against lefties, but every team that faces Tyler Gilbert is having success. Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks have enough power and plate discipline to score runs against Alex Wood, who still has an ERA above 5 on the season.
