Admittedly very high juice, this number is too good not to take. Howard is 3/3 on the season hitting this prop and has only started one game. He struck out 5 against Toronto in his lone start of the season, and that’s when he allowed 6 runs too. He gets a much easier Baltimore team here who strike out more often. Baltimore strikes out the 4th most in the MLB, and Howard is a pitcher who knows how to put batters away when get gets ahead in the count.
Howard won’t go deep into this game, more than likely but should hit this quick for us. Howard has only recorded 20 outs all season. 12 of those are strikeouts. Last year in 4 inning’s against Baltimore, he recorded 4 K’s. All we need tonight is 3. Last year when playing for Texas, he recorded 21 K’s in 21.1 innings pitched. The guy, since joining Texas, has thrown for more than 1 strikeout an inning. Baltimore is a plus matchup as well, it makes me think if he goes 3 innings, he should hit it. If he stays out of trouble, I think he has the upside to go to the 4th or 5th.
Howard hasn’t been good this year, but he has already shown that he can allow numerous runs and hit this prop. This prop is just set too low. We’re likely going to move the odds of this bet to -180 or something silly, so I’ll advise what I would pair it with. Assuming the number stays at 2.5, I would pair it with an alternate run line on DraftKings. I think Mets +2.5 would be a great juice reducer, and I can’t imagine the Reds doing too much damage on Scherzer, even if he has to shake off some rust. I never play strikeout props, but I love this one. My only play of the day!
