Jameson Taillon 7+ Strikeouts (+400) (Bet $100 to win $400)
*Odds Available at FanDuel*
Obviously, we're at FanDuel for this one since they have the ladders. I know I've said this before, but at some point, someone at one of these other books has to listen. Every site should have ladders. This is non-negotiable. Ladders are everything to everyone. Having the opportunity to drop a bet that is +360 on something that could actually happen is pure ecstasy. Everyone knows that.
Jameson Taillon used to play for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Everyone knows that. The Pirates drafted him number two overall in 2010. Right after Bryce Harper and right before Manny Machado. This guy was supposed to be a stud. I'm not saying he didn't pan out but let's just say Harper and Machado have had a little more success. Still, Taillon made his way to the Yankees organization, so there is that.
Point is, I bet Taillon hates the Pirates a little. Not full-on hate you read about, but the kind of hate you just bury deep inside in the hopes that it goes away. But it doesn't. The thing is, Taillon could channel this hate into his matchup tonight. I get that he's only reached 7+ strikeouts twice in 15 starts, but he's also ended up with six twice, so he's been close a couple of times too. But it's not just his hatred that he has for the Pirates (probably) that we have going for us, though.
If Taillon is going to punch out seven guys in a game, it's likely going to be against a lineup like Pittsburgh's. Over the last two weeks, only one team in MLB has struck out more than the Pittsburgh Pirates. We're talking 134 times in just 441 at-bats. Yikes. They've got six guys that legit could be in the lineup tonight that have whiffed in at least 33% of their at-bats over that span. There are two more that are in the 22+% range. The rain could make this one tricky, but I bet Taillon will be done by the time it starts. If it even rains. This is a great YOLO bet.
