San Diego Padres vs. Seattle Mariners Prediction

The Seattle Mariners will take on the San Diego Padres on Tuesday afternoon from Petco Park. The Mariners enter this game fresh off a lopsided victory on Monday night. This is likely the best brand of baseball that Seattle has played this season.

This team entered the year with fairly high expectations but did not answer the call to start the season. They added multiple big bats to the lineup in addition to last year's Cy Young Award winner Robbie Ray. Ray has been much better as of late after a dreadful start to his season. Seattle showed they are in it to compete this season when they added veteran first baseman, Carlos Santana to their team. Ty France, who was headed to be an All-Star this season, has been out of the lineup, and Seattle went after Santana to fill that role. When France returns, Santana will likely be the team's designated hitter for the rest of the season.

The Padres have been playing good baseball all season despite a slight slide. They hold the number one seed in the National League Wild Card and sit in second place in the NL West behind the Dodgers. This team is still playing without their best player in the form of Fernando Tatis Jr. Tatis is expected to return in August, which will be a huge lift for this San Diego offense. Today's pitching matchup should be a good one as Logan Gilbert will face Mike Clevinger

I am backing the Padres today on the moneyline. We are getting a solid line here, and I trust Clevinger on the mound. We have backed him with a lot of success this season, and this should be another good spot to do so. The Mariner's offense should regress after yesterday, and this Padres offense should wake up after being completely shut down at home.

Clevinger, when right, is a top-tier arm in baseball, and this Mariners lineup should struggle to figure him out today. Logan Gilbert has been very good for Seattle this year, but I believe the line indicates he will struggle a bit in this game. This should be a good pitcher's duel, but I give the advantage to San Diego in a good bounce-back spot.
