San Diego Padres vs. Seattle Mariners Prediction: Will Logan Gilbert Ring Up Manny Machado and the Padres?

They say you shouldn't bet games simply because they are on television. I don't even know who "they" are but that's what they say. I've heard it for years so the theory has been around for awhile. The thing is, how can we win if we don't bet? That's the part that never made any sense to me. On top of that, why am we watching baseball if we don't even have money on it. Seems like a waste of time. If I'm being honest, it feels like the best thing we could possibly do is lay down some cash on any and every baseball game that's televised. That's the only chance we have of winning on top of being fully entertained. To prove my theory, let's take the Seattle Mariners/San Diego Padres game on MLB Network at 4:10pm ET today. I have no dog in that fight but the second I place a bet I do. Lucky for us, I found a move that has no chance of losing. Our afternoon just got better because we're betting a nationally televised baseball game.

San Diego Padres vs. Seattle Mariners Prediction

Logan Gilbert Over 4.5 Strikeouts (-145) (Bet $145 to win $100)

*Odds Available at BetMGM*

This one is at BetMGM, and I'll apologize for the price. The thing is, -145 is the best price we're getting for this one. Barstool wants -152, DraftKings has -165, and FanDuel is sitting at -158. I mean, I get it since we're talking Logan Gilbert here but still. It just hurts to even put that into the pending wagers. Still, this is a nationally televised MLB game we're looking at. We need to bet it if we want to win. It's just that simple.

Logan Gilbert might be a strikeout guy. He's still young at 25, so time will be the ultimate decider here. What we do know is the kid is 6'6" tall and 215 pounds. That's a big dude so at the very least, he looks scary out there. So far in his career, Gilbert has more strikeouts than innings pitched (220 to 214), which is nice for a 4.5 guy. You don't always see that so it's nice when we do. It's worth paying for.

On the season, this kid has been pretty consistent. He's gone over 4.5 in 11 of his 16 starts which is pretty good. Another good thing is he's thrown over 100 pitches in nine of his last 13 starts. You can't strike guys out if you're not pitching. That's just a little basic science. It looks like this kid is viewed as a workhorse so we could get one of those sixth-inning cashes where he strikes his fifth batter out on his last pitch. Money can't buy that kind of excitement people. That's just for us gamblers.

Gilbert's opponent could ruin any chance we have of a sixth inning cash as they could fan five times by the time the second inning is over. We're talking the San Diego Padres here. Over the last two weeks, they've struck out 116 ties in 439 at-bats. That's not terrible but it's not good either. Guys like Manny Machado, Jorge Alfaro, Luke Voit, Nomar Mazara, and Trent Grisham could all be starting today, and they are all 28+% strikeout guys over the last two weeks. At the end of the day, if these guys are playing on national television, I'm betting it, and this is the bet I'm making. It's just that simple.
