Philadelphia Phillies vs. Washington Nationals Prediction
The weather tonight heavily favors hitters as it is a hot and humid night in Philadelphia, with the wind blowing out to center. This will give more carry to the ball. This is also a nightmare for pitchers who rely more on pop-ups and fly balls for outs. Guess who does exactly that? Josiah Gray.
Gray gets a lot of balls in play for outs, and of those, he gets 53% fly balls and pop-ups. Combined with the weather, Gray could be hit hard tonight. He has given up 16 home runs in just 81 IP, which means he gives up at least one home run in every start he pitches five or more innings.
Another area Gray struggles with is left-handed hitters. Gray is allowing a .252 average with a .903 OPS to lefties, compared to a .207 average and .625 OPS to righties. He has also given up 14 extra-base hits to lefties in 123 at-bats, meaning every 8.7 at-bats by lefties, there is an extra-base hit off Gray. This all means that Gray will have his hands full with the lefty bats for the Phillies, including one of the best in the league, Kyle Schwarber.
Kyle Schwarber has an OPS of .906 against right-handed pitchers this year. Schwarber has also hit a home run in four of his last ten games, and he had two in the first game of the series last night. With a good matchup against Gray on a hot night with the wind blowing out, I will take him to get over 1.5 bases and also to go yard again.
Philadelphia Phillies vs. Washington Nationals Pick
- Schwarber Over 1.5 Bases (+102) (Bet $100 to win $102)
- Schwarber to Hit a HR (+240) (Bet $100 to win $240)
