Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees Prediction: Can The Yankees Get The Better of Nick Pivetta?

The Boston Red Sox earned a much-needed victory over the New York Yankees. That win brought them just 15 games out of first place in the AL East!

I kid, but in all seriousness, the Red Sox can split the series with the Yankees with a win tonight on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball telecast. That would be encouraging for this group, fighting for a Wild Card spot.

Can the Red Sox get the much-needed victory tonight?

Here are our picks, predictions, and odds for Sunday's game between the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees.

Red Sox vs. Yankees Line Movement

Red Sox vs. Yankees Prediction

Tonight, Jameson Taillon will look for his 10th win of the season with the Yankees. He’s 9-2 with a 3.63 ERA, however, at times, he hasn't pitched as good as his record and ERA would indicate.

In the last 30 days, Taillon has had a 4.03 xFIP with 22.7% of strikeouts and 4.2% of walks. But his BABIP is at .362 while giving up 35.3% of line drives when balls are batted into play. He's giving up more line drives than ground balls induced.

Taillon has struggled much more against lefties. If Rafael Devers isn't in the lineup, he'll have an easier going tonight.

The Red Sox have a .142 ISO and wOBA of .321 against righties in the last 30 days. That’s including Devers in the lineup. Without Devers, these numbers would be much worse.

The only consistent left-handed batter would be Jarren Duran if Devers is unavailable. Duran has a .245 ISO and wOBA of .435 against righties in the last 30 days.

Meanwhile, Nick Pivetta will get the start for the Red Sox. Pivetta has a 5.06 xFIP in the last 30 days but has earned 22.8% of strikeouts in that time frame. Like Taillon, Piveta has struggled more against lefties recently.

He hasn't been drastically bad like Taillon but will have to face a lot more left-handed power in this game against the Yankees.

New York has a .231 ISO and wOBA of .337 against righties in the last 30 days with 10.8% of walks induced by the projected lineup.

Pivetta won't induce a high amount of grounders and the Yankees won't hit a ton of grounders with their projected lineup against righties.

Anyway, Taillon has a .505 wOBA and ISO of .404 against his last 50 lefties while Pivetta has a .337 wOBA and ISO of .192 against his last 63 lefties.

Both teams should have at least half of their lineup batting from the left side. I'll grab the over in this final game of the series.
