Oakland Athletics vs Houston Astros Prediction

The first game of the series went in favor of Houston, followed by a win yesterday by the A's. It has been rare for Oakland to win back-to-back games this year, let alone a series, but they get that chance today against the second-best team in baseball. It has been a long season for the A's already, and this was to be expected. This is a team who moved on from four starters last year and two of their best arms.

The A's just traded Christian Bethancourt who looked like he was one of their best players this season. This is a team who ranks towards the bottom of the league in most categories and is playing for the future. The Astros, on the flip side of things, are in win-now mode. This is a loaded team that will be competing for a world series this season. Top to bottom, you can make the case that the Astros are the best team in all of baseball.

Today the Astros will be tasked with facing southpaw Cole Irvin who is fresh off his best start of the season. He went eight innings and allowed just one run against the Blue Jays. Veteran Jake Odorizzi will oppose Irvin. 

I am backing the Astros on the -1 line today. I would be shocked if the A's win back-to-back games today, and I believe this is a great line we are getting on the Astors. We had the A's yesterday on the run line as the value there was too great, but now the value flips in favor of the Astros.

This is the best lineup in baseball in my eyes, and I think the books are overvaluing the arm of Cole Irvin due to his last start. Odorizzi is not the best arm in the game, but he can hold down a limited Oakland lineup and let his offense do the work today. I love this spot for the Astros. Let’s cash in!
