San Diego Padres vs San Francisco Giants Prediction

This has been a good series so far, and the Padres will look to close it with a win today and take the series 3-1. The likely route to the playoffs for both teams is via the wildcard due to the Dodgers being in their division. The Padres currently sit in second place in the national league wildcard.

They are still playing without their best player Fernando Tatis Jr. who is set to return in August. The return of Tatis will be a massive boost for this team, but they have been able to hold it down in his absence. A big part of that is the pitching of this Padres team. The Padres rank fifth in the league in team era, and they send one of those great arms to the mound today.

MacKenzie Gore will get the call for Bob Melvin and the Pads. Gore is considered one of the best young arms in the game. He has been that this season and will look to shutdown this Giants lineup today. Alex Wood will toe the rubber for the Giants. Wood has struggled to find his flow this year as he enters this game with an era north of five. The Padres will look to get to him early and higher his earned run average.

I am backing the Padres on the money line this afternoon. I have seen this really well to this point, and this should be another great spot today. Gore has thrown the ball extremely well this season, and the bats of the Giants have struggled as of late. This is a Giant lineup that is not all that deep, and if Gore has his stuff working today, it could be a long day for them.

I trust that the bats of the Padres will bounce back today after being limited to just one run last night. Alex Wood has been a great fade this season and has just not found his stuff yet. Until he proves that he can control a game, I will continue to fade him. Let’s close the series with a 4-0 sweep!
