Atlanta Braves vs New York Mets Prediction

The Braves come into tonight’s divisional matchup as one of the hotter teams in the entire league since the beginning of June. They also come into this game off a series sweep against the Nationals where they really had to grind the last two games. They could have easily rolled over and lost one or both of those games but they have been playing with a different type of intensity lately which I think will aid them in this pivotal division series opener.

The Mets on the other hand have been trending in a much different direction. The Mets haven’t been playing bad per se, but have not been close to the level the Braves have been playing at. The Mets are just 6-7 over their last 13 games and are coming off a series against the Marlins where they really should have been swept if not for two key pivotal errors by the Marlins in extra innings of Saturday’s game.

The Marlins have really been scuffling on offense lately, especially in the early innings as they only scored two total runs on two solo homers in the first five innings of their last three-game series against the Marlins. Things won’t get much easier for them tonight either as they will be facing Max Fried who has been excellent this season.

Fried cones into his game with a 9-2 record and a 2.52 ERA. Fried has given up two earned runs or less in his last nine starts and think this is a perfect spot for him catching a Mets team who isn’t too hot at the plate. On the other side for the Mets is Max Scherzer, a future Hall of Famer, and this will be his second start coming back from injury.

In that first start against the Reds, he looked fantastic as he struck out 11 across six innings while walking none, allowing no runs, and only allowing two total hits. The Braves are a big step up from the Reds and while it is hard to go against Scherzer, I do think the Braves have the advantage in this one due to the current offensive state of both teams. The line is also very telling in this one as Max Scherzer hasn’t been an underdog in quite some time and I think this is a big line indicator to back the Braves here.

With that being said, I am rolling with Braves F5 ML at -122 for 1U as my most confident MLB play of the day as I think Fried will hold the Mets down through five and think the Braves will be able to scratch at least two runs off Scherzer in the early going.
