Marlins vs. Pirates Line Movement

Miami Marlins vs Pittsburgh Pirates Prediction

These teams are both coming off wins that were underdogs on Sunday. The Pirates beat the number one team in their division, the Milwaukee Brewers, and the Marlins took down the number one team in their division when they beat the New York Mets in extra innings.

The Marlins will look to win this series and push their record back to .500. They sit just two games under the .500 mark, and with one of the better rotations in baseball, they feel like they are capable of going on a postseason run. This is a team who made the playoffs just two seasons ago led by a dominant pitching staff. They have the guy who is the front runner to win the National League's Cy Young award in the Sandy Alcantra. Alcantra is putting together a historic first half to his season, and if he is even close to as good as he has been in the second half, the award is his.

The Pirates have had a tough year so far, but the positive is it looks like they have some young guys who will be outstanding players. They inked a long-term deal with Ke’Bryan Hayes, and it appears Oniel Cruz is the real deal. Jack Suwinski looks like he can be a top-notch power bat, and Roansy Contreas could be an arm that is an ace for the Pirates in the next few years. They are playing for the future at the moment but will look to take game one of this series tonight on the road.

I am backing the Marlins on the money line here tonight. I believe that this is a team that will be in the playoff hunt all season long. Miami has a plus staff, and the guy getting the ball tonight is someone who I believe will have a great second half of the season. The southpaw Trevor Rogers will toe the rubber for the fish tonight. He has not had his best stuff to begin the year, entering play with an era north of 5.5. He was great last season for the Marlins and is much better than his numbers suggest.

He will be opposed by Mitch Keller, who enters this one supporting an era of 5.21. Keller is what he is. This is what we have seen from him his entire career. The Marlins should be able to touch him up tonight and give Rogers the run support he needs to win this game.
