The Boston Red Sox will battle it out with the Tampa Bay Rays tonight from the sunshine state. The Rays are fresh off a win last night where their offense finally exploded and led them to a win. The Sox are fresh off a split with the Yankees, and both of these teams are battling for position in the American League Wild Card race.
That will likely be the only route for these teams as the division seems like it will be won by the Yankees. The Yankees are piecing together one of the best first halves in league history. This is a team who has clicked on all cylinders this season. Their hitting is at the top of the league, as is their pitching.
The Red Sox and Rays are still two teams capable of making noise. The Sox represent one of the best lineups in baseball, and tonight, they add back their ace. Chris Sale will return to a Major League mound tonight for the first time in a long time. The former Cy Young award winner should be fired up for his return.
Sale has pitched in just nine games since the 2019 season. He had a solid season in 2021 before he hit the IL again. He will be opposed by veteran Corey Kluber who has enjoyed a solid season so far for the Rays.
I am backing the Sox on the moneyline tonight. I love this spot for Boston for a few reasons. The first is the return of Sale. This is a guy who is about as competitive as any pitcher in baseball and should be well focused tonight. He has been throwing in the minor leagues, so I trust that his arm will be ready to go.
The second reason is I believe that the Red Sox will get to Corey Kluber. Kluber has had a pretty good season, but this will be one of his toughest tasks of the year. The Red Sox will bounce back today behind a strong outing from Sale and an excellent offensive day.
