Washington Nationals vs. Seattle Mariners Prediction
The Seattle Mariners face the Washington Nationals taking place from our nation's capital on Tuesday for an interleague affair. The Mariners enter this game as baseball's hottest team, and now they find themselves as the final Wild Card in the American League entering play. This has been a quick turnaround for the Mariners after a sluggish start to the season. It feels like their brawl against the Angels sparked something for them, as since then, they have been playing terrific baseball.
The Mariners know they will be facing one of the worst teams in all of baseball in the Washington Nationals. The Nationals are a tough team to figure out. This is a team who just won the World Series a few seasons ago, and now they sit towards the bottom of the league. A lot of that has to do with the fact that they moved on from two of the stars of that team in Anthony Rendon and Trea Turner, but the bottom line is they went from the top to the bottom at record speed.
They are now playing for the future, and the biggest question mark surrounding Washington is Juan Soto's status. Soto is having a down year, but do not let that fool you. He is still one of the most dangerous hitters in the sport. Josh Bell and Nelson Cruz are names many think could be dealt at the trade deadline.
The play I am going with here will be the under. I believe this number is far too high for offenses that are not all that explosive. The Nationals bats have struggled all season long, and they rank 27th in the majors in runs per game, averaging 3.88. Chris Flexen gets the ball for the Mariners, and he has been very solid this season. I believe he can hold down this limited offense.
Josiah Gray toes the rubber for the Nationals, and he is one of the best young arms in the game in my eyes. Gray was acquired as a part of the Trea Turner trade and was considered a top prospect in baseball. I expect him to have one of his best starts of the season as the line here is suggesting the Nats win this game. Seattle has been swinging it better as of late, but they still rank 24th in the league in runs scored. I love this spot tonight.
