Atlanta Braves vs. New York Mets Prediction
The New York Mets face the Atlanta Braves taking place from Atlanta, Georgia, on Wednesday afternoon to wrap up a pivotal three-game series. The series has been highly entertaining so far, with both teams winning a game by the score of 4-1.
The Mets were led by a dominant start in game one by Max Scherzer, followed up by a solid outing by David Peterson. The Mets bullpen let them down a bit, and the Braves took full advantage as Adam Duvall hit the big home run to push the score to 4-1. The Braves bullpen was outstanding last night, getting two good innings from Collin McHugh, and AJ Minter was solid in the 9th to end the game. The Braves win last night puts them 2.5 behind New York in the division.
The Mets will look to pull off the upset today and win this important series.
The Braves will send veteran Charlie Morton to the mound. Morton is one of the most experienced arms in the majors, winning a World Series twice in his career. He has been solid for Atlanta this season and will look to shut down this Mets lineup this afternoon. Morton will be opposed by Chris Bassitt, who the Mets picked up from Oakland in the off-season. Bassitt has enjoyed a good year in a Mets uniform after being an all-star a season ago. He is 6-6 with an era of 3.94.
I am backing the Braves on the moneyline this afternoon. This is the better team at the moment and the much healthier team. The Mets have been without Jeff McNeil and Starling Marte in this series, two guys who are All-Stars this season. They are still without their starting catcher, James McCann as well. This is just not a very healthy team right now.
Pitching-wise, I see this matchup fairly even, but I am going to trust the much better offense to lead us to a win today. The energy should be there from Atlanta after a big come-from-behind win last night. They know how key these games are for the division, and this is a team who just won a world series. They will answer the call this afternoon.
